Ladera at The Reserve

Three years ago my bride, Jackie and I felt that it was time to look at some options. Yard work was transitioning from a hobby to a chore. Home upkeep and repair were consuming more of our budget; plus we were living in half of our old house, but paying taxes on the whole thing. We sought something newer and smaller. We were too late for the Debby Lane Ladera, and we weren't keen on moving in with a bunch of old geezers, so assisted living communities were out of the question.

Huge "Mega Neighborhoods" with private golf courses and prohibitive dues weren't appealing. Neither were six story apartment buildings with limited privacy and a walks through the rain, or heat, to the car. (Just imagine the race for the stairs on the fifth floor when the fire alarm goes off at midnight.) We looked at a nice +55 community of attached homes, (duplexes and triplexes.) It had great floor plans but zero amenities and little privacy. So how do you deal with the deaf neighbor playing the stereo, or TV, in the middle of the night?

Then we discovered Ladera at the Reserve. This month is our third anniversary, and it has been a joy. There are the typical new construction issues, every new home has some of that. We love the sanctuary of our freestanding home and the amenities are a delight. But, the best part of being a Ladera resident, without a doubt, is the strong community bond of friends and neighbors. All of us, like minded folks sharing common interests, goals, at similar places in life, with similar experiences. It is just great. We have only one regret. Why didn't we do this ten years sooner?
